(Linnaeus, 1766); RACHYCENTRIDAE FAMILY; also called ling, lemonfish, black salmon, black kingfish, sergeant fish, crab eater, runner, cabio. Worldwide in tropical and warm temperate waters both offshore and inshore. Adult cobia seem to prefer shallow continental shelf waters.
